In an attempt to prevent the spread of coronavirus the state has issued several measures to aid in social distancing.

  • On Wednesday the governor announced that all restaurants, breweries and other food establishments would be limited to take out and delivery service •She also ordered all malls, health clubs, movie theaters and spas to close •Social gatherings of 10 or more are prohibited •All New Mexico public schools are closed •The University of New Mexico, New Mexico State University and New Mexico Tech have all extended their spring breaks, although some programs have opted to continue coursework online •All non-essential and many city workers are being asked to work from home •The city of Albuquerque will close all indoor and outdoor exhibits at the BioPark through April 15.
  • Overnight camping and events at New Mexico state parks will be suspended through April 9, but the parks will remain open for day use •All New Mexico state museums, historic site, and culture institutions are closed •All casinos in New Mexico, including tribal casinos are closed

New Mexicans financially impacted by these closures are being urged to file for unemployment as several traditional challenges have been waived for applicants.


The Mid-Region Council of Governments have ceased operations for the Rail Runner only.

APS & RR Public schools cancelled until April 6th.

Albuquerque Academy has canceled all in-person classes starting March 12.

St. John’s College in Santa Fe has canceled all in-person classes.

Las Cruces Public Schools has canceled all large events, athletics games, tournaments and musical performances.

The New Mexico Health Secretary issued a public health order temporarily prohibiting mass gatherings in New Mexico that brings together 100 or more people in a single room.
